Shadows Lounge consists of two spinning papercut-chandeliers and the animated shadow cube which defines the space into lounge area and dance floor. The installation refers to the ancient Chinese tradition of the shadow dancers and the puppet theater.
The slowly turning chandeliers illuminate the bar and lounge area, creating a more than 30 meters long shadow play on the walls. The graphic composition of the shadows is continuously changing, revealing gradients between sharp and soft shadows created by a magic mechanism at the center of the lamps.
Inside the Cube, 24 paper cuts and 30 power LED’s create an animated play of shadows on the facades. The servo motors move the lights through space, highlighting selected details of the ancient craft.
The Visualpilots’ peephole lets the visitors take a peek inside the cube, observing the moving lights and discovering how the arduino powered installation transforms the paper cuts into oversized shadows.
