ShallWeMusic?

The Shall we Music ? project is a musical experience game that let’s people play and experiment with sound and changing music styles. With it’s playful character it is intended to enhance social interaction and create shared memories. All the musical experiences and games are recorded and can be reproduced and shared by the guests after the event.

Conviviality

The place of investigation was the event with its social interactions in various forms. Besides the widely discussed world of food, we identified music as one of the main topics creating conviviality, because music creates a common language between people. We wanted to create a musical experience platform that provides triggers to convivial moments in special events.
Music is a careful composition of sounds, rythm and instruments. Looking at the event, we see people in social compositions. These two observations lead to the idea of recomposing music through social behaviour. Taking music to it’s pieces could mean listening to each instrument separately. If every person at the event is representing and playing an instrument we could say, everybody is a speaker.

Recomposing music

By walking around in the event  and coming together in groups the crowd will then be creating a moving soundscape, reorganising the original music in new and changing compositions. The scenarios created, evidently lead to situations which we refer to as “making a band” which we consider to be quite a convivial moment. Since the bands are formed through their social behavior, the unusual compositions of the instruments and tracks will allow for a whole new sound experience.
